Workshop Schedule for 2011/2012

*Nov. 30th; Dec. 7th, 14th, and 21st; and, Jan. 4th and 11th*

When: Wednesdays from 8-10pm

Where: Salem, MA

Tuition: $200 per 6 week session or $35 per class

The theme for this 6 week workshop is Writing the Rough Terrain. Some topics are harder than others to write about without tipping over into cliché, or schmaltz, or sermonizing. In this session we will try our hand at this “rough terrain,” which includes: humorous or light verse, elegies, poems about romance/love, poems about sex, Ars Poetica, and political poetry. We will look at the best way to frame or cast each of these topics. NOTE: this workshop is not for “beginner” poets.

For the first session: please bring several copies of a "humorous" poem for workshopping; also, bring in another poet's poem that successfully accomplishes something (whether in language, image, line break, voice, vision, etcetera) that you are trying to accomplish in your workshop poem.

Email jennifer@fishwifetales.com for workshop location and to sign up now. Spaces are limited!

The theme for this 6 week workshop is The Wild Mind. The theme is from the title of Natalie Goldberg's book about "Living the Writer's Life." I will refer to chapters from her book in each class. Our focus will be on generating new poems and committing ourselves to the writer's life. (No need to purchase Goldberg's book). NOTE: this workshop is not for “beginner” poets.
